Churches in Braunton Parish

St Anne

Saunton Braunton
01271814082

The Braunton Mission Community covers the same area of North Devon as the civil parish of Braunton. There are two places of worship - St Brannock's, the Parish Church and St Anne's, a Chapel of Ease at Saunton. In addition to Braunton and Saunton the Mission Community also includes the hamlets of Lobb, Knowle, Fullabrook, Winsham, Little Beara, Pippacott and Halsinger. The population is over 8,000 and it is a very popular holiday area so the population increases hugely in the summer months.

St Anne's is in Saunton on the main road from Braunton to Croyde and opposite the entrance to Saunton Golf Club. It looks across Braunton Burrows and the golden sands of Saunton Beach. Saunton is one of a number of hamlets that make up the Parish of Braunton.

The original chapel dedicated to St Anne was recorded in the C17th nearer the sea and was one of the five ancient chapels in the Parish.

The present Chapel was built by local families with the foundation stone being laid in 1895 and the opening service was held on Wednesday April 29th 1896. It was intended to be the Chancel of a much larger building which was never built.

There is a service at St.Anne's each Sunday - on the 2nd and 4th Sunday this is a Said Eucharist at 8.30am. On the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays there is a Service of Matins (Book of Common Prayer version) with hymns at 11.00am. Other services and events are held during the year.

Parking is available on an open space down a short lane on the Braunton side of the Chapel. The Chapel is open each day for visitors.
